Why Site Specific?

At AGCO we want to prove to the customer that the use of technology tools in a site specific program is going to make them money in their crop production program.

There is not one way that site specific will help make an operation profitable. Site specific is one tool to help identify those areas of crop production that may need more management attention and help in combining information to make better decisions.

As in every business, the manager must examine all aspects of their operation and make decisions and adjustments to become as efficient and productive as possible. As the business manager uses tools to examine his/her business, site specific is the tool to make crop production more efficient and productive.

Every grower knows that some areas of a field are more productive than others by crop growth or by grain coming into the grain tank at harvest. Some growers have even gone to the extent of manually managing areas of the field. While that grower may increase production in some areas and save money on inputs in other areas, those gains/savings are probably lost in efficiency.

The use of technology and site specific tools enables the grower to collect more repeatable information, to make better, more informed decisions, with gains in efficiency for implementation and application.

Does site specific pay in all cases?  NO!  Profitability on an operation has quite a few factors that are manageable. Some of these factors are:

  1. Soil and production variability.
  2. The operation’s management practices
  3. Program expectations
    a. Higher yields
    b. Cost savings
    c. More or less fertilizer use
    d. Placement of fertilizer
  4. What is being controlled and its impact on the crop.

Site specific is a tool to manage what the operation can manage to the best of their abilities.  Nothing more, nothing less.
