Isobus Workshop – São Carlos –Sp, Brazil

The first ISOBUS Workshop was held in the Embrapa Agricultural Instrumentation headquarters in Carlos – SP, Brazil. ISOBUS is the term used to describe the ISO11783 standard for onboard electronic systems in agricultural machines that facilitate the integration, the development and the use of this equipment (www.isobus.org.br). One of the main advantages for the user is that the standard makes the electronic connection of the tractor with implements easy, allowing the terminal installed in the tractor to operate and monitor the functions of all ISOBUS-compatible implements. The objective of the standard is to make the electronic connection as simple as connecting to a three-point hitch.

Mike Schmidt from AGCO explains how to “Get started on ISOBUS”

The main objective of the meeting in Brazil was to bring the latest information on the standard to developers in Brazil. The program covered three main areas: The history, current activities and future perspectives worldwide; The technical details of how to work to the standard and the components, software, programming code and diagnostics tools already available; The practical “Plugshow” where several companies showed ISOBUS in practice.

Debate discussed ISOBUS in Europe, North America and Brazil

The event was a clear success, reinforcing that the ISOBUS standard covers many areas such as electronics, mechanics, logic, interface and computer science. The workshop brought together the theory of ISOBUS with practical examples, both useful and informative for all participants.

Participants connected terminals and job computers and adjusted programs

The standards and developments in the various regions were presented and debated, and it became very clear that ISOBUS is already growing rapidly in these countries - initially more intense in Europe, but in last the two years the US has followed suit. And the risks of investment? The only risks are for those that do not invest in this worldwide trend.
